Property Inventory III

12 Arcadia Street
Built: 1960
Number of units: 32
Type of Construction: Moderate Rehab
When purchased, this building was headed towards deterioration. The moderate rehabilitation undertaken in 1986 brought this property back to good condition and assured 32 units of housing.
The size of the building brought its own issues. The traffic flow into this building from one entrance created problems of noise and alienation for residents. A second entrance was created, allowing half the units to be accessed from one side of the property and half from the other. This has created a greater feeling of community for residents and improved the overall quality of life within the building.

These buildings were vacant and vandalized when taken over by the Fields Corner CDC. The CDC was able to preserve the faˆßade and some of the interior details of these buildings. All systems were replaced; the unit sizes were reconfigured to be in keeping with the family size and demand in the area.
